Eligibility Criteria

For Undergraduate Applicants:

  • Completion of 12 years of education (or expected to complete by arrival in Japan)

For Master’s Applicants:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or be expected to graduate before arrival

  • Generally must be under the age of 35 (born on or after April 2, 1990)

For Doctoral Applicants:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent required

  • Age limit generally the same as Master’s applicants

For Specialized Training College Program:

  • Completed 12 years of formal education

  • Aged between 17 and 25

How to Apply

The application process must be done through the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in your home country under the “Embassy Recommendation” pathway. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the official website of your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate to find specific eligibility, deadlines, and forms.

  2. Download and carefully read the application guidelines.

  3. Prepare and submit the required documents (see below).

  4. Successfully pass the document screening conducted by the Embassy.
