This competitive program is specifically designed for individuals from underrepresented WTO member states, offering them the chance to contribute to the daily workings of a major global trade body. Over the course of one year, selected participants engage in policy analysis, project implementation, and research in priority areas ranging from trade law and environmental sustainability to digital commerce and dispute resolution.

  • Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS)

  • Digital Trade and E-commerce

  • Trade and Gender

  • Development Policy and Technical Cooperation

  • Legal Affairs and Accessions

Participants are matched with areas based on their background, preferences, and WTO needs.


Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the WTO Young Professionals Programme 2026, candidates must:

  • Be a national of a WTO member with low or no professional representation at the Secretariat

  • Be 32 years old or younger as of January 1, 2026

  • Hold a university degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, international relations, economics, environmental studies, trade policy)

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in areas related to trade or international policy

  • Be fluent in English (fluency in French or Spanish is advantageous)


Eligible Countries (Partial List)

Priority is given to nationals from underrepresented member states. These include, but are not limited to:

Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Botswana, Cambodia, Ecuador, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Zambia
